Juicy celebrity gossip outlets are finding out that Jamie Foxx and Chris Brown were on their way to meet the King of Pop when he died on June 25, 2009 at his rented LA mansion in the Holmby Hills district. According to statements made in an interview with Brown, the two were on their way to meet Jackson at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles where he was rehearsing for his This Is It Tour. In the middle of transit the two got a call telling them to wait for a little bit as Jackson was yet to show up to practice, "And then we got a call later (about Jackson’s death) and it was devastating," says Brown.
At the time, Foxx was enjoying the success of the box office hit The Soloist and beginning work on the star studded Valentine’s Day. Rhythm and Blues artist Chris Brown pleaded guilty to a felony domestic violence charge three days prior on June 22 in return for a reduced sentence. The incident was reported to be between Brown and then-girlfriend Rihanna, and tarnished his reputation in the eyes of the public. One month later, on July 20th, Brown appeared in a Youtube video apologizing to both his fans and Rihanna for the domestic altercation and accepting full responsibility of his actions.
Jackson was a childhood idol for both Foxx and Brown and they were very much looking forward to spending some time with him at his performance rehearsals. News of Jackson’s death spread quickly and the world turned to mourn him over the next few months. There were perhaps few more broken than Foxx and Brown after they learned of the celebrity news.
The involuntary manslaughter trial in progress against Jackson’s doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, has recently been postponed by an American judge until May in order to allow both sides more time to prepare. The charges against Murray are built around evidence that he illegally gave Jackson anaesthetic drugs that led to the pop star’s death. Murray’s lawyers are expected to counter with arguments that Jackson’s rapidly deteriorating health made him more susceptible to then unforeseen illnesses.
