Seven years can be a long time in the music industry. Bands can break up, singers can reinvent themselves and musical styles can change. But the British boyband McFLY has been one of the few to have bucked the trend.

Debuting in 2003, the band’s first single ‘5 Colours in Her Hair’ shot straight to the top of the charts, beating competition from hip hop prince Usher and pop princess Britney Spears. Their debut album Room on the 3rd floor broke records when the Guinness Book of World Records recognised McFLY as the youngest band to have ever debuted a single at number 1. This was a record formerly held by legendary boyband The Beatles.

The last 7 years has seen the boyband go from strength to strength. In 2008, the band parted company from their record label and released their album radio:ACTIVE for free through a Sunday newspaper. This was a deal that celebrity news insiders thought ground breaking, especially considering the stance the music industry had taken on free music at the time.

The boyband most recently returned with their latest album, Above the Noise. Music reviewers noted the long period of absence has allowed the band to creatively reinvent themselves, producing a new sound for on their latest tracks without alienating their existing fans. The quartet also launched a unique online venture dubbed the ‘SuperCity’, allowing fans to preview work in progress as well as interact directly with the band.

This month sees the band finally get their 15 minutes of silver screen fame with the launch of their reality television series, McFLY on the Wall. Going behind the scenes of their recent Above the Noise tour, the band have promised that the show will display a ‘warts and all’ view of their day to day activities.

A number of celebrity gossip bloggers have been gleefully looking forward to the show as it was filmed during the time when bassist Dougie Poynter appeared across the celebrity headlines after checking himself into rehab. Poynter’s band mates went on the record about the matter, stating that the bassist was having a hard time coping after his breakup from The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford.

The boys have promised that McFLY on the Wall will be very different to the current crop of celebrity reality formats, with a more documentary feel rather than the style made popular by Jordan, Peter Andre and Kerry Katona. Fans can see the show starting soon on 5* this month.
